Joe and Pat Richardson, Founders, 1958

Established in 1958, J & P Richardson is one of Australia’s longest established electrical contracting and engineering firms. Today JPR is backed by the digital transformation and energy transition platform of Vinci Energies.

We now offer our customers extensive local experience and knowledge, together with the latest technologies and innovation of a global construction company.

 

1950s

Joe and Pat Richardson commenced trading from their home in Goodna in 1958. Their first job was installing a pump for an Italian farmer in Redbank, Ipswich.

1960s

With a ferocious work ethic, and values based on trust and integrity, Joe and Pat grew the business quickly. By the end of the 1960s, J & P Richardson was the biggest house wiring contractor in Queensland. “I have always considered it a privilege for customers to entrust me with their work.” Joe Richardson Snr.

1970s

JPR moves from Goodna to their current site in Wacol. The company also became Forrers’ Pumps Contractor, supplying and installing pumping equipment over Queensland and NSW. JPR also started building power lines throughout country Queensland. Their switchboard section grew, and a mechanical workshop opened to service the company’s vehicles and plant.

1974

During the 1974 flood, JPR recalled more than 70 of their electricians to help out local businesses, working continuous 12 hour day and night shifts. JPR develops a reputation for ‘boots on the ground’ and highly committed, responsive staff.

1980s

JPR purchases Forrers Pumps, which had 30% of the market. By 1987, the company has 70% of the sewerage pump market.

1990s

JPR purchases HG Walker Electrical, a company with a 70 year old heritage. JPR also purchases Halmac Services.

1995

In 1995, Optus engages JPR to work on the new Pay TV roll out in Brisbane, in which JPR prepared all the overhead electrical systems in Brisbane, Redcliffe, Ipswich and logan. It was the company’s biggest contract to date, worth $14 million.

2000s

JPR grows to a company with 330 employees, with branches in Ipswich, Toowoomba, Chincilla, Brisbane Northside, and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.In 2002, Kennedy Taylor IP was acquired to enhance switchboard manufacturing capability.

2010s

In 2013, Joe Richardson JNR retires, bringing to an end half a century of family management. Ian Thompson becomes Managing Director.

2016

In February, 2016, JPR is acquired by leading global construction company, Vinci Energies. JPR now offers almost 60 years of local heritage and reputation, together with the leading global technologies and innovation of Vinci Energies. The company looks to play its part in digital transformation and smart energy, entering existing and emerging sectors like Renewables and Smart Cities.
